Attorneys are very creative in drafting additional powers to supplement the statutory powers in petitions for guardianship of the person and estate. Then GALs and advocate counsel must decide whether to accept or oppose those additional powers. Another common question is how to tailor the statutory powers to limit the guardianship and preserve some autonomy for the ward. Milwaukee County Disability Services Division and Milwaukee County Department on Aging will provide a brief overview of its services, statutory obligations, and statutory limitations regarding Adult Protective Services (“APS”) and Elder Abuse (“EA”). Information will cover both general APS/EA investigations but also how the County petitions on behalf of adults in Adult At-Risk Injunctions.
