Annual Probate GAL Seminar

Part I: When Protection Becomes Oppression: Could the Britney Spears Case Happen in Wisconsin?

Jessica A. Liebau, Wessels & Liebau, LLC

Following the #FreeBritney movement and the very public breakdown of Britney Spears’ 13-year conservatorship in early 2022, the guardianship reform movement gained a new spokesperson. Was the Spears case unique, or did it simply put a shiny new face on very common and longstanding problems with guardianship? This presentation explores whether the Britney case could happen under Wisconsin guardianship laws as they exist today.

Part II: Unusual Circumstances in Guardianship Cases

Melissa Dietrich Robe, Robe Law Offices LLC

Unusual circumstances can arise in guardianship cases, such as creating a new will while under guardianship or filing for a divorce while a guardianship proceeding is happening. Learn how to effectively handle them and keep the case on track!
