Understanding and Protecting Native American Intellectual Property:  Challenges and Choices

Presenter:  Melody McCoy,  Staff Attorney, Native American Rights Fund

Native American stories, songs, ceremonies, marks, designs, and inventions.  Are these protectable under international, federal, state, or tribal intellectual property laws?  Are there any laws that are specific to Native American intellectual property?  Can private contract provisions be used to protect Native American intellectual property?  What about “non-law” efforts such as social media, education and other information means?  This presentation will give an overview of these questions, and answers to them.
