On The Record: Digital Response to the Court Reporter Crisis

This program will discuss the status of the court reporter shortage in Wisconsin, the status of the profession nationally, and the innovative solutions being implemented by Wisconsin’s courts to address these challenges. The presentation will debunk common myths and false narratives about the court reporter shortage and the use of digital audio recording. Remote monitored digital audio recording (RMDAR) as a method for taking the court record will be discussed and demonstrated in a court setting (via video). Attorneys will receive practical tips and advice for participating in court proceedings where RMDAR is used. Our new statewide digital court reporting program will be introduced, and we will update our ongoing activities to keep Wisconsin’s courts “on the record” now and into the future.

The program will conclude with a panel of Milwaukee County Circuit Court judges and attorneys who will talk about their experiences with RMDAR.
