IP and Free Speech Considerations in Online Interactions in 2020
(Approved for 1.0 CLE credit)

Presenter: Ross A. Hersemann, Loading Law

2020 has established a new normal— a virtual reality. Millions of Americans have moved their work, learning, and entertainment online and into virtual worlds. A new flood of creative content, content sharing, and communication has taken place, and as a result, many have fallen into legal pitfalls related to intellectual property infringement or considerations related to free speech. Join Chicago-based attorney Ross A. Hersemann for this presentation that details best practices for limited liability of your virtual presence and conduct in online interactions by following models and legal precedent taken from the video game and esports industries.

Ross is the Founder of Loading Law, a Chicago-based law practice, and provides legal counsel to video game developers and entrepreneurs in the tech sector. Ross is also the Organizer of the Chicago Video Game Law Summit and an Adjunct Professor of Video Game Law at DePaul University. He speaks frequently on hot topics in law and technology. Ross also serves as the Chair of IGDA Chicago, Chair of the CBA YLS Creative Arts Committee, and Vice Chair of the ABA IPL Digital Games and New Media Committee.
